The Clew Bay Bike Trail is a magical seven-day biking experience starting and finishing in Westport taking you on a premium electric bike through beautiful Irish countryside, over mountains, sea and lakes. With luggage transfer, boat trips, bicycles, breakfast, accommodation and guided tours included – the Clew Bay Bike Trail from Country Road Adventures is not one to be missed. Take a preview of our route below with a breakdown of what to expect each day.

Day One & Two

You will depart from our Country Road Adventure HQ – Paddy & Nelly Bike Hire in Church Street, Westport. Located conveniently right in Westport Town Centre on a quiet street – perfect for finding your feet on your premium e-bike. You will be travelling towards the beautiful Joyce County Geopark.

Your first day will see you cycle 32km using our high-quality premium electric bikes from Westport to Tourmakeady. This is a magical start to your tour over picturesque mountains and hillsides, down charming country lanes. There will be a small water stop (a local secret) along the way with fresh spring water untouched by anything.

Then, cycling onwards through the idyllic Irish countryside, you’ll find yourself arriving in Tourmakeady – an Irish village in the “Gaelteacht”. This is where Irish is spoken – but don’t worry – you’ll find a warm Irish welcome in English.

Take in the waterfall, the harbour and the private grounds that are in Tourmakeady.

Day Three

Today, you’ll be cycling 38km along the beautiful Irish countryside – made easy with our electric bikes. You will travel towards Lennaun and stop at Hamilton’s for lunch. There are a number of choices for you for food. On this day, just after lunch you’ll experience the Kilary Fjord Cruises. You’ll stay overnight in Leenaun.

Day FOUR

Today will be exciting as we reach the week’s midpoint! You’ll leave Leenaun and travel to Louisburgh early in the morning (around 10 a.m.) When you’re in Louisburgh, you’ll then catch the ferry to Clare Island. The ferry leaves in the afternoon. You will leave your e-bikes for this portion of the journey on dry land.

The total cycle is 37km.

For seafood lovers, the island will be another haven for lunch and dinner offering the finest quality food and produce for you to try.

You’ll be staying in accommodation on the island (bed and breakfast).

Day FIVE

On Clare Island, you’ll be greeted by Mike of Shoreline Pursuits, who will hand you electric bikes for use on Clare Island. You can get something to eat and then get a guided tour from Mike around Clare Island taking in the Abbey, Lighthouse and Gráinne O’Malley’s, also known as Grace O’Malley’s Castle.

You’ll be taking the ferry from Clare Island Harbour to Achill Island, our next step on the Clew Bay Bike Trail. You’ll probably have heard of Achill Island (Ireland’s largest island). The ferry leaves Clare Island Harbour in late afternoon. Your bikes will be waiting for your 15km to cycle to B&B by the beach!

You’ll be staying overnight on Achill in beautiful bed & breakfast accommodation.

Day Six

You’ll be spending the full day on Achill Island in Keel with the holiday feel from the beach and surrounding village. Achill Island is a place of adventure with many amazing sights and sounds. Why not cycle out to Keem Bay and see the breathtaking beauty of Clew Bay along the way?

You’ll be staying in Achill again on this day and we will be providing you with a warm and comfortable stay and in great accommodation.

Accomodation in Keel will be close to the beautiful beach.

The total cycle is 35km.

Day seven

Today you’ll be leaving Achill Island on your bike and travelling back to Westport (where you started). You’ll cycle along the Great Western Greenway on your e-bike – making it simple and easy to cycle all the way back to Westport.
